Is it a dollar amount of EBITDA, a certain percentage of profitability, a certain amount of core growth, an amount of inorganic growth, a certain number of new team members, or a certain number of new clients? For most of us, it is a combination of all of the above. Taking the time to define a successful year is the first step in a strategic planning process.
Per Wikipedia, strategic planning is a process in which an organization’s leaders define their vision for the future and identify their organization’s goals and objectives. The process includes establishing the sequence in which those goals should be realized so the organization can reach its stated vision.
My definition is simpler. State where you want to be and then determine how you will get there. The more layers you pull back to define quantifiable goals and the specific tasks needed to achieve those goals; the better picture you will have of how you will have that successful year.
