From the desk of Scott C. Mayor, CIC, CPCU, CEO
The short story…my entire career has been about risk management within the insurance industry, having equipped a wide gamut of companies with insurance.
Upon graduating from the University of Denver with a BSBA in Economics and International Finance, I joined the Continental Insurance Company and within five years, I was one of the youngest Sr. Production Underwriters with the company. Soon after, I joined the Riedman Insurance Agency in Steamboat Springs, CO. as a producer and then was promoted to the Branch Manager as well as the lead commercial insurance producer.
As my career continued to advance, so did my passion for learning even more about the insurance industry. I received my Certificate in General Insurance from the Insurance Institute of America in 1989. I became a Certified Insurance Counselor via The Society of Certified Insurance Counselors in 1991. In 1994, I completed The American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters program and received the designation of Charted Property Casualty Underwriter, CPCU.
Brown and Brown, a top 10 agency in size worldwide and publicly held, bought Riedman Insurance in 2001. I continued to run the Brown and Brown Steamboat office as the Profit Center Leader and joined the executive team a few years later as an Executive Vice President.
In 2005 we purchased our largest local competitor and became one of the dominant agencies in NW Colorado.
In 2012, I became the Chief Operating Officer for the Neil-Garing Agency in Glenwood Springs, CO. As second in command I was able to change my responsibility from the overall P&L and focus on the development of people. This included the sales team as well as the service team. We were able to really focus on client services and building a great platform to offer world-class service with world-class knowledge. This experience reminded me that one of the best joys in our profession is being of service to our clients while serving with a great team. In 2016, the Neil-Garing Agency sold to Mountain West Insurance and Financial Services (MWIFS). MWIFS is one of the largest regional insurance agencies in Colorado.
My experience in the publicly held arena of the Brown and Brown allowed me the ability to balance the need for an exceptionally strong P&L with those needs of client services and team building.
In 2021, our own personal risk management process said it was time to diversify our retirement portfolio. We liquidated our equity in the agency, and are reinvesting in the creation of Endurance Risk and Management Services.
When I’m not helping with risk and agency management needs, I enjoy spending time with my family, including two adorable grandchildren, and traveling with my wife Joy. The above photo shows a favorite mode of travel from a few years back. I also love photography and we have endeavored over the years to find great locations to scope out that next great picture-worthy setting.

Scott has been a steadfast professional partner with Resort Group for over 25 years. I have utilized Scott’s input for our contractual risk management as well as helping our managed associations better understand their own CC&R’s from an insurance perspective. Scott and his team have always put the focus on the risk management concerns for Resort Group allowing our team to focus on our staff, our clients and growing our business.
Scott Mayor was an exceptional mentor during his 6 plus years with Mountain West Insurance. Not only are his explanations thorough, but his attention to detail regarding form interpretation is unmatched. Scott's leadership and knowledge are greatly missed, but thankfully he's a phone call away.
As CIO for the agency I worked with Scott for five years. His leadership was amazing and his skills around team building, analytics and strategic planning were a great asset to our team.
